Candidate profile

In this executive-level role, we want to hear from candidates with the vision to support the continued transformation of our Field Operations directorate. It’s a huge opportunity to shape strategic goals, to align our operational structures to current and future organisational needs, and to build a function that leads the field.

Candidates’ experience and credibility are key. Depth of expertise is important, but we’re also looking for a breadth of experience. With a range of perspectives from a varied career to date, you will have the agility to think differently, see new perspectives and challenge accepted thinking.

A track record of driving high performance in a complex organisation – and ensuring that necessary change is delivered to agreed standards and timescales – is vital. Strong candidates will hold a management and leadership qualification or equivalent, with significant exposure to organisations of a similar complexity and scale to the RSPCA, and experience of setting strategic direction. A background of service delivery through a branch network would be an advantage.

Your credibility will be established through the way that you build relationships with influential stakeholders (from trustees to branch members), set clear standards for others, and provide expertise, guidance and advice at the highest level. You will be able to think strategically, present with clarity, negotiate effectively and establish strong, clear expectations that are understood across the directorate. It will also be important that you can rapidly forge resilient and mutually constructive relationships with the other members of the senior leadership team, which has been instrumental as the engine of positive change for the Society.

Finally, the successful candidate will also have a strong affinity with the mission, purpose and values of the RSPCA. You will understand issues around animal welfare, empathise with our charitable objectives and be an ethical professional who operates with integrity.
